Beginning, Dhenkanal is a small beautiful town surrounded by greenery of jungle and small hills, a place with a lot of natural serenity and peace. The school is situated in an eco-friendly environment of Mahisapat, the way between the famous tourist place Kapilas and Saptasajya near the base of the Paniohla hills just 200 mt away from N.H. 55 which connects Sambalpur Cuttack. It is the one of the district head quarters of Odisha state. MONTFORT SCHOOL is established in the year 1969 and the only ICSE School in whole of Dhenkanal district.
English medium school was a dream for the people of Dhenkanal. So a few learned people of Dhenkanal took the initiative to start an English Medium school in 1969 and got an old building with few acres of land at Mahishapat. The dream of having an English Medium school was actualized in the same year when Sri. S.R. Vala then collector as Chairman and Mr.P.K Tripathy as Secretary took the lead to start and the school was known as Public School, Dhenkanal.
Initially only 20 students and they were taught by few Anglo Indian teachers from Kharagpur. With a lot of effort they managed the school and in the year 1976 when Sri. A.J. Alex was the collector, the school was handed over to Diocese of Sambalpur and Rt. Rev Raphael Chinath Svd, as the chairman.
The Diocese entrusted the management of the school to the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel, thus the school name became Montfort School. Bro. Albert was appointed as the first principal of the school. The school was affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi on 5th September, 1982.In the year 1984 the first ICSE broad examination was held and Bidhan Chandra Debata became the topper in the school.
They carried out the administration of the school up 17th August 1991 then the Diocese directly took over the responsibility of carrying on the administration of the institution and appointed Fr. Thomas. P, Svd as the principal of the school. The principals of the school were changed but the growth of the school went soaring. Students of this institution are now leading various Govt and Pvt organizations of the country. They have made an impact within and outside the country positively.
